On the 26th of November 2024, the European Chief Prosecutor, Laura Codruța Kövesi, and the Director of the National Anti-corruption Center of the Republic of Moldova (“the NAC”), Alexandr Pînzari, signed a Working Arrangement in order to strengthen the cooperation between the two institutions.
The Working Arrangement aims to promote the exchange of information, data, and evidence within the limits provided by the legal framework and their respective mandates. The information shall relate to criminal offenses against the European Union’s financial assets.
Based on Article 5 of the Working Arrangement, these information may be transmitted:
1. spontaneously: the Party shall state the purpose for which the information is transmitted.
2. on motivated request: the Party shall specify the purpose and the reason for the request.
Any restriction on the use of information must be indicated by the transmitted Party.
Institutional cooperation and implementation of the Working Arrangement
The Parties will also exchange strategic information (such as trends and challenges), and expertise to their respective areas of competence.
Thus, the Institutions may invite each other to seminars, workshops, and other relevant events.
Moreover, the parties can organize high-level meetings with the participation of the European Chief Prosecutor and the Director of the NAC.
In addition, the EPPO may provide technical support the NAC, sharing practices in investigations and prosecuting financial crimes, corruption, and related crimes.
