17 October 2024 marks the first International Day of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, and UNESCO has invited stakeholders of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage to organise commemoration activities.
We have organised a hybrid workshop, ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage in the European Union Legal Frameworks’ online and at the University of Milan-Bicocca moderated by Prof Benedetta Ubertazzi with a keynote by Dr Elena Sinibaldi on Tuesday 29 October 2024 from 10:30am to 12:30pm. The workshop will link the work of the Subcommittee on EPPO and Cultural Heritage Crimes in the EU, with the objectives and implementation of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in the European Union. The workshop will focus on refugee and migrant intangible cultural heritage, and will also feature an intervention by Prof Toshiyuko Kono to provide the Japanese experience as a comparator.
